Maria Teresa “Tera” Vazquez
Tera Vazquez is a co-founder of Guy Brown and now serves as the company's President and CEO. She attended Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics. She then pursued her Master of Business Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. Tera began her career as a brand manager at Pelikan, Inc. in Franklin, Tenn., an affiliate of Pelikan AG in Hanover, Germany. In 1994, she joined Nu-Kote International in Dallas, Texas as the Director of Product Marketing and was later promoted to Director of Sales and Marketing for Latin America.
Tera was elected as the Chairperson of the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) for the TMSDC in December 2012 and also serves on the executive board of the TMSDC.
Elected to the Presidency of the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce in November 2008, Tera assumed office in January 2009 and held the position until January 2012. She is the first female to hold this position.
She is a mom to one daughter, Lauren, and six dogs.
Jay Chawan is a co-founder of Guy Brown and now holds the Chief Financial Officer position. He is also CEO of Swiftwick, a high performance sock brand focused on compression socks for elite athletes. Jay attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He began his career as a flight test engineer with McDonnell Douglas on the F-15 program and then joined the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Program before leaving to pursue a Master of Business Administration at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Upon earning his MBA, Jay started ProQuest Management in 1994 focusing on financial planning for professional athletes and later started Guy Brown with his business partner, Tera Vazquez.
Jay serves as Treasurer of the Brentwood Soccer Club and sits on its Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Brentwood High School Hockey Club Board of Directors.
Phil Markuson began his relationship with Guy Brown in 2005 as Vice President and General Manager. In 2007, Phil officially became the Chief Operating Officer to provide corporate functional accountability for finance, operations, human resources, information technology and general and administrative areas including legal and risk management.
Phil is a native of Chicago and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. He went on to earn Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. In his scuba-diving life, Phil is a risk-taker - once swimming closer to a group of sharks to see what they were eating.
Steve Creed joined Guy Brown in 2004 as National Sales Manager and took on the role of Regional Vice President and Sales Director in 2007. He now holds the position of Vice President of Sales, allowing him to bring business solutions to Guy Brown customers based on more than 30 years industry experience with office, promotional marketing and printer supplies.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. He resides in Cincinnati with his wife, Jan, and they have two grown children. When not providing customers with effective business solutions, Steve stays involved with the University of Cincinnati Athletic Team Support (UCATS) Booster Club, Northern Cincinnati Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Basketball and Bob Huggins Arthritis Foundation Golf.
